Learn Norwegian massage as a occupation or a course?

The massage profession offers a unique freedom to work exactly when, where, and how you want. You can choose to only take Level 1 and 2 — to see if you like the training, learn some massage techniques, and become a "Wellness Massage Therapist." You can then use these skills on friends and acquaintances. Or do the full education. Massage is very effective, has many positive side effects, and no known negatives! But you need to learn when not to do massages also. It reduces stress hormones, increases flexibility, strengthens the immune system, and alleviates pain and discomfort. We would be very happy if you give us a call for a completely non-binding conversation. Visit the "Frequently Asked Questions" section and also check out our students' "reviews" of the school and instructors. Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common reason for sick leave in Norway. This costs society 85 billion Norwegian kroner each year. (2020) The need for, and demand for skilled massage therapists is therefore increasing. You will be able to help many people with the knowledge you gain with us. If you choose to pursue your education with us, you will learn to assess clients, treat them, and provide them with a home program. You will carry your profession with you wherever you are in the world, opening up many different job opportunities worldwide. We will be close to you and support you every step of the way, and we look forward to having wonderful days together! NOMAS massage techniques treat, prevent injuries, and increase well-being. During the training, you will experience a sense of mastery.

A day at the NOMAS school (09:00-16:00)

We start the day calmly together, with anatomy from 09:00. (The exception is the first day of Level 1, when we start at 10:00.) Then we practice massage before and after lunch, which is around 12:00. You will learn to massage different parts of the body at a time, with the correct rhythm and pressure. You will also become familiar with techniques and grips on your own body, which is very important for becoming a skilled therapist. It is impossible to become proficient solely through online teaching. We are careful to cover you on the massage table well with sheets and provide a safe study environment. When the person on the table relaxes, the massage becomes more effective.. Through constructive and positive feedback, you as a student will develop into a professional and serious practitioner of the massage profession in Norway. You will also be able to work around the world. It is a myth that massage should be hard and fast. That approach frightens clients and creates more tension rather than helping them. You will learn to give a "appropriate" treatment for each client. If the pressure is too light, it won’t loosen anything, and if it is too hard you make more tension. There is plenty of time for questions and curiosity. The impact of touch; "Skin Hunger," is a key topic. Equally important is knowledge about touch, as well as sports massage techniques, if you want to be a massage therapist.

Information

The courses include Saturdays and Sundays, so you won't need to take much time off. We ensure that the teaching is relevant, fun, and medically based. At the same time, understanding that the physical and mental aspects are interconnected is important in our treatment. After completing the training, you will receive the title: Dipl. NOMAS Massage, and become a member of NMF Norges Massasjeforbund (Norway's Massage Association). It is very important that you choose a school approved by this association. Please don't hesitate to call us: 93 898 037, or schedule an appointment to visit the school.

Only 2 days online - Anatomy - Physiology - Theory

We have a few theoretical subjects that are conducted via Zoom (online teaching). These sessions are on two Sundays from 10 AM to 5 PM, and you will receive the link along with the materials the week before. Please print out the course manual so you can take notes on it. The massage profession cannot be taught solely online; it would not be serious and is not approved by the Norwegian Massage Association, Norway's highest professional authority. You can attend the two classes from home, and we ask that your camera is on during the sessions, as it's nice to see each other. The teaching is interactive, with some group work. The lessons include, among other topics: anatomy and physiology, massage history, techniques, injuries, diseases, documentation, and functional anatomy.

NMF Norges Massasjeforbund (The Norwegian Massage Assosiation)

As a student at NOMAS, you receive a free student membership with NMF and are therefore insured with a liability insurance, which is important to have while practicing to become a Massage Therapist. This is ESSENTIAL, and with us, everything is in order. Upon completing your education and receiving your diploma, you can use the NOMAS- and NMF logo as a quality mark once you have upgraded your membership. When you have your diploma, you can also use the title: NOMAS Massage Therapist MNMF. You will gain full access to all benefit agreements, course discounts, member forums, job postings, and a strong community committed to professionalism and quality in the field. NMF is the only association dedicated to traditional massage therapists. They work hard politically to improve conditions, secure VAT exemption, and enhance the reputation of our industry. They have the strictest professional requirements for approved schools in Norway. NOMAS’s founder and main instructor was one of the founders of the Massage Association in Norway in 1995.

NOMAS Massage

We are all different, and every massage should be unique and "tailored" to each individual client. At NOMAS, we believe this makes the profession of being a massage therapist exciting, and no two days are the same. Lying on the bench should not be painful. It should feel good, sometimes "good/painful," but always within the client's tolerance limits. To achieve this, it’s important to develop sensitivity in your hands and good communication skills. You will learn "old" techniques that have not been taught in the last 25 years within classical massage. Our lead instructor has a unique knowledge of the field gained through 30 years of private practice and training classical massage therapists at Axelsons. Her extensive and diverse experience across many areas is truly exceptional. You can read more about her on the "About Us" page. You will learn new grips, time-saving, and effective techniques. You will also learn how to communicate with your client and build rapport—creating mutual understanding and trust. We also teach you how to take care of yourself as a massage therapist, including techniques, grips, and working posture. Our lead instructor has massaged for 30 years without incurring any strain injuries. You should not get tired or exhausted. We also offer specialized courses in "Work Position, Ergonomics, and Technique" for osteopaths, naprapaths, massage therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, and estheticians.

Between the courses and your own studies at home

Between the courses, theory and practice should be combined through practical exercises. You should set aside time to complete homework assignments, alone and/or in a study group. Practical training should also be carried out between the courses, where you practice massaging friends/family/others at home or at a practice placement. We recommend that you charge everyone immediately (recommended price in Oslo: 60 minutes for NOK 490-590, which is about 50% of what you could charge as a Certified NOMAS Massage Therapist). Massage needs to be practiced, and you will quickly recover your study costs. You have the opportunity to earn up to NOK 50,000 tax-free in one year. You can deduct the education/course costs from your business. More information about this will be provided at the school.

What is needed to start a massage practice?

You need the NOMAS diploma, which will give you a solid and safe professional foundation, and you can achieve this with us! You will receive guidance at the school on how we treat clients, so you feel confident and get to practice everything. You don't need much equipment, but a massage table is good to have, and we recommend Tarsus tables (60 cm wide and foldable). There might be an opportunity to rent a table at the school between modules. You will need a chair, sheets, cream/oil, and a few other items. We also provide information about starting your own business and what it takes to get started on your own.

Tests

We divide into small and short tests, not large and difficult ones! Tests will be held in the following subjects: - Anatomy and Physiology - Palpation (feeling your way through the body) - Practical Massage Note! Don't be intimidated by the exams—we teach you the subject in a fun way so you remember what you need more easily. The course materials are specially tailored to the education in a unique way that makes everything easier for you. As a private school, we help you through your education!

Diploma and Certificate

You will receive NOMAS Diploma and Certificate when you: - Have passed all exams - Have at least 90% attendance per module - 100% attendance in student-traeatments - Have adhered to NOMAS values, ethical guidelines, and maintained confidentiality - Have paid the tuition fee
