This course is the same as the ordinary Massagecourse we have in Norwegian but in English. The Norwegian Massage Assosiation (NMF Norges Massasjeforbund) is the only assosiation you can rely on to have the highest standard of education. Our NOMAS school is a part of building the best Massage Therapists in Norway and beyond. Time to study: We will start the education course somteime in spring 2026! Dates will be set desember 2025!
The massage market offers a unique freedom to work exactly when, where, and how you want. As a qualified NOMAS Massage Therapist, you can work with everything from wellness and spa to injuries and elite sports—you gain full competence, and then this school is for you. Our students often get jobs before they finish their studies. We are one of the few approved schools in Norway by Norges Massasjeforbund, and it is very important to choose a school with a serious federation, not just an association, so be aware of this. Please feel free to call us for a chat, and possibly to arrange a visit to the school if you wish. Our head instructor has the longest track record in training masseurs in Norway and the broadest expertise.
The massage market gives a unique freedom to work exactly when, where, and how you want. You can choose to take only Step 1, in 6 days, to see if you like the study and learn a little massage that becomes "wellness massage." You can then use it on friends and acquaintances. Massage is very effective, has many positive side effects, and no known negatives! Massage lowers stress hormones, increases flexibility, strengthens the immune system, and relieves pain and discomfort. We would be very happy if you call us for a completely non-committal chat. Go to the Frequently Asked Questions and also check our students’ ratings of the school and the teacher. Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common reason for sick leave in Norway. This costs society 85 billion kroner per year. The need for, and demand for, skilled masseurs is thus increasing. You will be able to help many people with the knowledge you gain with us. If you choose to pursue the education with us, you will learn to assess clients, treat them, and give them a home exercise program. You will carry the profession with you wherever you are in the world, and it opens up many different job opportunities around the world. We will be close to you and help you all the way, and we will have wonderful days together! NOMAS massage techniques treat, prevent injuries, and increase well-being. During the training you will feel a sense of mastery.
We start the day calmly together, with theory on anatomy and massage from 09:00. (The exception is the first day, Step 1, when we start at 10:00.) Then we work practically both before and after lunch, which is around 12:00. You will learn to massage parts of the body one at a time, with the right rhythm and pressure. You will also feel grips and techniques on your own body, which is very important to become a skilled therapist. It is impossible to become skilled only with online teaching. We are careful to cover the bed well with sheets and to provide a safe study environment. If the person on the bench relaxes, the massage becomes effective, and we can achieve that. Through constructive and pleasant feedback, you as students will develop into professionals and serious practitioners of the massage profession. There is a myth that massage should be so hard and fast. That scares and creates more tension than it helps clients. We will learn to give a truly "appropriate" treatment to our clients. Too soft does not loosen anything, so the word "appropriate" is central to us. There is ample time for questions and reflection along the way. What touch has to do with humans, “Skin Hunger,” is central. Equally important is knowledge about touch as well as sports massage techniques if you want to be a masseur.
The courses include Saturdays and Sundays, so you don’t have to take as much time off. You can, if you prefer, take a few courses in six months, and continue next semester if you want to take things gradually. We ensure that the teaching is relevant, engaging, and medically based. At the same time, there is the understanding that the physical and mental aspects are connected in one body. After completing the program, you will earn the title: Dipl. NOMAS Masseur, and may become a member of the NMF Norwegian Massage Federation. It is very important that you choose a school that is approved by this federation. Feel free to visit the "Frequently Asked Questions" where there is a checklist you should go through before choosing a school. Call us at 93 898 037, or schedule an appointment to visit our school.
We have a few theoretical subjects conducted via Zoom (online instruction). It runs on two Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00, and you will receive the link with the material a week beforehand. Print the syllabus so you can take notes on it. The massage subject cannot be taught online; it would not be credible, and it is not approved by the Norwegian Massage Association (Norges Massasjeforbund), Norway’s highest professional body. You can follow the instruction from home, and we would like your camera to be on, as it’s nice to see each other. It is interactive teaching with some group work. The instruction includes, among other things: anatomy and physiology, history of massage, techniques, injuries, diseases, record-keeping, functional anatomy.
The course is approx. 6 weeks over 6 months. Payment options for the Massage Therapist Education: 1. Pay in full before the course starts and receive a NOK 5,100 discount; total NOK 46,500. 2. Installment plan: NOK 3,900 per month for 14 months. 3. Pay per course: NOK 8,600 per course, NOK 51,600 (6 courses). 4. NAV covers the education in certain cases. Please feel free to contact us for a chat.
We are all different, and all massages should be different and “tailored” to each individual client, we think here at NOMAS. This also makes being a masseur an exciting profession and no day will be the same. It should not hurt to lie on the table. It should feel good, and sometimes “good/painful,” but within the client’s tolerance. To achieve this, it’s important to develop sensitivity in the hands and good communication. You will learn “old” techniques that have not been taught in the last 25 years in classical massage. Our head teacher has unique knowledge in the field from 30 years of personal practice and training of classical massage therapists at Axelsons. Her exciting and broad experience from all kinds of fields is truly unique. You can read more about her on the page: “About us.” You will learn new grips, labor-saving and effective techniques. You will learn how to communicate with the client and build rapport; that is, build mutual understanding and trust with your client. We also teach you how to take care of yourself as a massage therapist—technique, grips, and working posture. Our head teacher has massaged for 30 years without sustaining any musculoskeletal injuries. You should not get tired. We also offer our own courses in “Working posture, ergonomics, and technique” for osteopaths, naprapaths, masseurs, physiotherapists, nurses, and estheticians.
